Sunday's Willow Lake natural area walk was a success; not too hot; some old faces and some new ones came along. In total we had fourteen people and four folks from Parks.  Jackie Langtram led off the tour but as she said she is not into the nature part of parks and so left us with Bill Gilbert and an associate. I hope we are able to repeat the walk in the fall when the weather is cooler and there are more people around. See you on the 24th. Next time, I hope we can get nearer the lake. Pat

Due to a "Heat Wave" that suddenly struck New York City after nearly two months of cold weather accompanied by nearly daily rain, the Unisphere of the 1962-64 World's Fair became a haven for the heat exhausted masses from the surrounding neighborhoods of our park. Children, men and women plunged into the fountains and jets of cooling water to escape the oppressive heat of June 26, 2003 which coincidentally was the evening that our Conservancy took our scheduled tour of the park with the Richard Murphy, Queens Park's Commissioner and William Gilbert Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Manager.
